The Laraways Say One Thing, But Do Another

Fred and Teresa Netter are Deceptive Spokespeople for "Stop 49"

Nettermeasure49 The Netters say: "If Measure 49 passes, we'll lose the value of our property. We want to see the tradition go on... we want to farm."

This statement is patently false. The Netters filed a Measure 37 claim for a 60-lot housing subdivision on their 98 acres of exclusive farm use land. The state denied the Measure 37 claim because the land was already protected farmland when Fred Netter acquired it in 1977.

Professor James Huffman Apologizes for Misleading "Stop 49" Letter

Huffman

Update: Professor Huffman has issued this apology for the misleading nature of his anti-Measure 49 letter sent out as a mass mailing by the "Stop 49" campaign last week. Wow. The No on 49 Campaign is doing some strange things with spokespeople. Nearly all of their 'official' spokespeople (in their TV and radio ads, pamphlets, and mailers) are people with substantial Measure 37 claims. While James Huffman doesn't have a Measure 37 claim himself, he is the former Dean of Lewis and Clark Law School, and Lewis and Clark itself DOES have a major Measure 37 claim to subdivide 3,600 acres of land that was given to the school into what the permit calls "farmettes", each with its own individual, "mini vineyard". This land is zoned for exclusive farm use, and before Measure 37 could not have been developed into a subdivision.

Bob and April Jossy's Measure 37 Subdivision: "Orchard View Estates"

"Stop 49" spokespeople April and Bob Jossy are in campaign ads talking about how Measure 49 will "shut down their family u-pick farm" because they want to build 13 homes on their property. Incredibly, in reality, the Jossy's have already filed and been approved for a 20-lot subdivision on their property. The Jossy's "Sunset Orchard Estates" is a proposed 20 lot subdivision complete with an airstrip, located at 31965 NW Beach road, Hillsboro Oregon, and it would not have been allowed before Measure 37.

Measure 37 and the "Stop 49" Campaign Spokespeople

Some timber companies and developers are spending a fortune trying to defeat Measure 49. As part of that campaign - in television ads, mailers, flyers and in the voter's pamphlet - the Stop 49 Campaign has offered up "spokespeople" who claim that Measure 49 would prevent them from undertaking modest developments on their property. But the claims they are making are very different than the claims they have actually filed. Below is a chart of some of the "Stop 49" spokespeople in ads from the last several weeks. Read the real facts behind these spokespeople, and why they are working for the "Stop 49" Campaign. Note: All information is taken from official records and based on the actual Measure 37 claims filed with the state and county by these people.

Gerald and Roberta Curry - "Stop 49" Spokespeople and Subdivision Developers

Currymeasure49_2 Roberta and Gerald Curry claim in their Voter's Pamphlet statement supporting the No on 49 campaign that they simply want to divide their land so they can give a parcel to each of their 5 children.

The truth is that the Currys have filed a Measure 37 claim to divide their 110 acres into 110 separate parcels! They're looking to build 110 houses, each on one-acre lots...it makes you question how many children they really have.
