"Timber Firms Battle Oregon Property Measure"
Campaign finance figures show that 18 timber-related companies have contributed $1.14 million, or 59
percent, to the $1.93 million campaign so far to defeat the Nov. 6 ballot measure, called Measure 49.
Of those timber companies, nine have claims under the 2004 law seeking the right to convert 113,000 acres of their land to subdivisions or $32.5 million in compensation if governments reject those claims.
Wildish Sand and Gravel to Develop Near Mount Pisgah and Willamette River
After contributing $10,000 to support the passage of Measure 37 in 2004, Wildish Sand and Gravel filed the largest claim to date in Lane County. The company is now seeking to develop half of their 14,000 acre holdings that lie between the Willamette River and Mount Pisgah. Wildish has demanded $15 million in compensation if the county does not grant them permission to develop the acreage. The company intends to build a gravel mine, and then housing subdivisions after the mine is exhausted.

Measure 37 donor "Davidson Industries" has filed 34 separate Measure 37 development claims east of Siltcoos Lake - and demands $58 million in compensation
Davidson Industries gave $5,000 to help support the passage of Measure 37 in 2004. Since then, the company's owners have filed 34 separate Measure 37 development claims just east of Siltcoos Lake and Siltcoos Station, and just west of Canary Road. The company is seeking to subdivide and build separate parcels on the land, but their development intent remains vague. The total compensation demanded for only 16 of the 34 claims (available online) totals $58,599,015.
Measure 37 Claim To Erect 80 Foot Electrical Towers Where They Are Currently Not Allowed
Central Electric Cooperative, Inc. of Redmond has filed Measure 37 claims in
both Deschutes and Crook Counties to go around the existing requirement that power
lines be placed underground. The company is seeking land use waivers
meant to protect neighbors’ property values and preserve scenic vistas
in order to erect electrical towers up to 80 feet tall.
The company CEO recently stated that the claims are “probably not what Measure 37 was intended to do.” The company has demanded over $240 million from the counties and state if the regulations are not waived.

Seneca Jones Timber Co. Donated $321,000 to the Measure 37 Campaign - Files $6.75 Million in Measure 37 Claims
In 2004, Seneca Jones Timber Co. helped pass Measure 37 in Oregon by contributing over $320,000 to the campaign (that's about 20% of the entire Yes on 37 campaign budget). Just another example illustrating who was behind the passage of Measure 37 in 2004, and who's fighting Measure 49 now - big timber business with a lot to gain if Measure 37 stays on the books.
Since then, Seneca Jones Timber Co. founder Aaron U. Jones has filed over $6,750,0000 in Measure 37 claims. The state can either strip all land regulations and allow Seneca to build, or will have to pay the $6,750,000 for "lost income" under the new statute.Seneca has recently contributed $50,000 to stop Measure 49 from passing.
