Illegal Measure 37 Construction in Marion County
On Monday September 17, D8 Caterpillars started bulldozing a road for a massive Measure 37 subdivision in Marion County. The claim was never approved by the county, but the claimants - Leroy L. and Jean R. Laack, M. Duane Rawlins, Greg M. Eide, Andrew A. and Margaret Rainone – ignored this detail, and hired North Santiam Paving to build the road. Construction began that Monday morning.
Concerned neighbors rushed to inform county officials that the claim was illegal, and construction was halted, but not before quite a bit of un-permitted road building took place on high-value Oregon farmland....(read the full story here)
The Johnsons Hurry Construction Before It's Too Late
Ralph and Norma Johnson were among the first to submit a Measure 37 claim. The couple filed a claim for compensation $2,650,000 in lost revenue. Of course, Yamhill County had no means of paying such a large claim and was forced to approve the project. The Johnsons plan on subdividing their 49.4 acre property into one-acre residential lots. The property is located at 16705 Northeast Chehalem Drive, Newberg, OR.

Bob and April Jossy's Measure 37 Subdivision: "Orchard View Estates"
"Stop 49" spokespeople April and Bob Jossy are in campaign ads talking about how Measure 49 will "shut down their family u-pick farm" because they want to build 13 homes on their property. Incredibly, in reality, the Jossy's have already filed and been approved for a 20-lot subdivision on their property. The Jossy's "Sunset Orchard Estates" is a proposed 20 lot subdivision complete with an airstrip, located at 31965 NW Beach road, Hillsboro Oregon, and it would not have been allowed before Measure 37.
The Haffners Hurry to Begin Construction Before It's Too Late
Wesley and Juanita Haffner were among the first to file a claim after the passage of Measure 37 in 2004. For 14 months, the claim was held-up by paperwork, the county's waiver-approval process and legal challenges. The wait ended Tuesday, when a Lane County Circuit Court judge ordered the county to issue the final permit. For the Haffners, the decision couldn't have come sooner- Measure 49 would limit the number of houses they could build on the property. But with the okay from the county, the Haffners rushed to begin construction on their 178 acres southwest of Eugene, off Gimpl Road.
