The Truth Behind The Bitzs' Claims
Jerry and Sandy Bitz are featured in a "Stop 49" mass mailer, where they state, " We told our kids we would give our property to them... we'd like to keep our farm for future generations." The truth is that under current zoning laws, the Bitzs can divide their property into seven lots, or keep it intact as a farm, regardless of Measure 37 or Measure 49.
The issue lies in Jerald V. Bitz's $4 million Measure 37 claim in Washington County where he is seeking to "subdivide and build homes" on 36.93 acres of zoned Agriculture and Forest District (AF-5). Remember, he is allowed up to 7 homes already, but Measure 49 would not allow as many homes on this farm property as Measure 37 would allow. Because Measure 49 will not allow them to build a larger subdivision on their farm, the Bitz's want you to vote no on Measure 49.
