The Johnsons Hurry Construction Before It's Too Late

Measure 37 Construction Under WayRalph and Norma Johnson were among the first to submit a Measure 37 claim. The couple filed a claim for compensation of  $2,650,000 in lost revenue. Of course, Yamhill County had no means of paying such a large claim and was forced to approve the project. The Johnsons plan on subdividing their 49.4 acre property into one-acre residential lots. The property is located at 16705 Northeast Chehalem Drive, Newberg, OR.

The Johnsons, like others, are rushing construction to secure their "vested rights." because Measure 49 would restrict their projects.  The "vested rights" law, in this context, implies that if construction is far along enough (sewer, water, and foundation systems installed, for example) they have the right to continue construction, regardless of any new statutes. This is why we are seeing more and more developers rush to gain vested rights on their projects before the elections.
