Measure 37 Campaign Donors With Measure 37 Claims
|
|
After Oregon voters passed Measure 37 in 2004, contributors to the Measure 37 campaign filed Measure 37 development claims on hundreds of thousands of acres of Oregon farm and forestland that was protected before the passage of Measure 37. As of Sept. 14, the state reported receiving a total of 6,808 claims
worth $19.8 billion, according to the Department of Land Conservation
and Development. That number does not include claims filed with cities
and counties, but only with the state. Measure 37 campaign contributors have demanded nearly $700 million in compensation from Oregon taxpayers if they are not allowed to develop the land in the ways that were prohibited before Measure 37.
Several large timber companies have filed claims for over $400 million combined. Most Measure 37 claims are for housing subdivisions on farm and forestland that was protected before the passage of Measure 37. |
