Measure 37 Claim To Erect 80 Foot Electrical Towers Where They Are Currently Not Allowed
Central Electric Cooperative, Inc. of Redmond has filed Measure 37 claims in
both Deschutes and Crook Counties to go around the existing requirement that power
lines be placed underground. The company is seeking to go around land use laws
meant to protect neighbors’ property values and preserve scenic vistas
in order to erect electrical towers up to 80 feet tall.
The company's CEO
recently stated that the claims are “probably not what Measure 37 was
intended to do.” The company has demanded over $240 million from the
counties and state if the regulations are not waived.
